My work is a blend of painting and drawing.
Paint is used as a drawing medium.
Each painting consists of layers upon layers of drawings, creating a world out of paint itself, becoming more complex over time.

The goal is to make a gestural, intuitive drawing with the lush, sensuous, physical qualities of paint.

Often people see landscapes in the paintings. Though I don’t set out to paint landscapes, I do enjoy back-country walking and looking at aerial photos and maps - especially old ordnance surveys and topographic maps. So having landforms show up in the paintings is not surprising.

Abstract visual art is unmediated experience.

"Any awareness is an increment to consciousness,
an added light, a reinforcement of psychic coherence . . .
There is a growth of being in every instance of awareness."
Gaston Bachelard
